An unmanned lawnmower has drawn
the group at the Chelsea Flower Show this week. Yet, however brilliant it might
be, it’s no swap for the genuine article

The joys of cutting have been
perceived after Edward Budding, a quick specialist from Gloucestershire,
concocted the chamber lawnmower in 1830
I spent a few days this week
staying with a companion who has a huge house close Hereford, backing onto a
broad grass specked with natural product trees. When he met me at the station I
could see that he was a long way from his standard lively self, so I asked him
what wasn't right.
"It's the lawnmower,"
he answered. "I was perched on it cutting the grass and wandering off in
fantasy land and I found one of the trees. My lawnmower man has taken it to
pieces and says he needs to do some work on the front wheels." As we moved
toward his drive, the first thing he brought up was the disaster area of the
cutter, strewn over the way.
